A Historic Achievement in Addis Ababa

In May 2023, at the prestigious District Conference and Assembly held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, our club reached a milestone that reflects years of exceptional service and leadership. We were honored to receive the Most Outstanding Club Award for District 9212, encompassing Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Eritrea.

This recognition wasn’t just about a single project or initiative—it represented our comprehensive excellence across all areas of Rotaract service. From community impact to leadership development, from international cooperation to professional growth, our club demonstrated the kind of holistic excellence that sets the standard for others to follow.

The ceremony in Addis Ababa was particularly meaningful, bringing together Rotaract clubs from across East Africa to celebrate achievements and share best practices. Among the many awards presented that evening, our recognition as the Most Outstanding Club stood as validation of our sustained commitment to service excellence.

Dominating Excellence Across Six Nations

Before the district restructuring, our club achieved an unprecedented feat in the former Rotary International District 9200—we were voted Best Club three separate times. This historic district encompassed an even broader geographic area, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Eritrea.

Winning this prestigious award once would be remarkable; winning it three times establishes a legacy of sustained excellence that few organizations ever achieve. Each victory represented not just our club’s performance in that particular year, but our ability to consistently innovate, adapt, and exceed expectations year after year.

Rotaract Outstanding Project Award 2014

International Recognition for “A Girl A K A Year”

Our groundbreaking “A Girl A K A Year” Sanitary Towels Distribution Project (H-Pads) earned the prestigious Rotaract Outstanding Project Award for Sub-Saharan Africa Districts from Rotary International in 2014. This international recognition validated our innovative approach to addressing a critical but often overlooked challenge facing young women across East Africa.

The project’s impact extended across three countries—Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—reaching over 4,000 girls with not just essential supplies, but comprehensive health education and dignity restoration. The international recognition highlighted how local innovation could create regional impact when executed with passion and precision.

Best Community Service Project – District 9200

Local Excellence with Regional Impact

In addition to international recognition, our H-Pads project was honored as the Best Community Service Project by Rotary District 9200 in Rotary Year 2011/12. This award recognized not just the project’s scale and impact, but also its innovative approach to addressing complex social issues through practical, sustainable solutions.

The dual recognition—both at district and international levels—demonstrated that truly exceptional community service transcends boundaries and resonates with evaluators across different cultural and geographic contexts.
